Data and Software Laboratory (DASL)
Description: DASL is a computer lab (Social Sciences 115A) for use by SBS faculty, visiting scholars, and graduate students on a 24 hour/7day-a-week basis. Please see Kelly Huff in Room 115B to get keys. The lab has 17 Pentium 4 computers running Windows XP Professional, one PowerMac G4, two scanners with OCR capability, a laser printer, and a color inkjet printer. All computers are networked for easy access to local and distant computers. Available software includes MS Office XP with FrontPage, SAS, SPSS, STATA 8.0, StatTransfer, Acrobat, Limdep 7.0, ArcView GIS 3.2, Stella, NUD*IST 4.0, UCINET, ActivePerl, Java, Allegro Common Lisp, SWI Prolog, Amos for student, Lisrel for student, HLM for students, CLAN, Lemwin, LogicCoach, Praat, X-Win, Photoshop, OmniPage, IPA fonts, and IME's for several languages. The Support Systems Analyst, Senior installs programs downloaded from the Internet on DASL computers if there is a request and if the program s don't adversely affect the functionality of DASL computers. You need an account to use DASL computers. Each user is allotted 350MB of storage space on the server. Printing is 5 cents per page and every new user gets $10 initial credit for printing. Please check the account details. Access and Support for ICPSR Data:
You can download Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) datasets directly from the ICPSR web site if you access it from a computer at the University of Arizona campus. If you have trouble downloading datasets from the ICPSR of if you need help converting the downloaded files to SAS or SPSS format, send an e-mail to Young-Gie Min. Personnel:
Young-Gie Min, Support Systems Analyst, Senior, manages DASL, supervises the ICL, provides support to ICPSR data users, and chairs the DASL Advisory Committee (DASLAC). DASLAC comprises representatives from the five SBS departments that use DASL most frequently and advises SBSRI on the needs of DASL users. Location and Hours:
