Suggestions for Dossiers

Section IV: Curriculum Vitae and Candidate Statement

Curriculum Vitae

  • The candidate should prepare the CV and candidate statement on his/her own.
  • Follow directions from the Provost's memo precisely where applicable.
  • Where it is specified that candidates should include material from the last five years or period in current rank, follow instructions.
  • In preparation for the mandatory review, we recommend that candidates start using the format for two and fourth year reviews.
  • Sign the candidate statement.
  • Do not include information on teaching in this section. Place it in the specified section for teaching.

Candidate Statement

  • The candidate statement is a very important part of the dossier. It is the most visible place where the candidate can explain, amplify, and foreground information in other parts of the dossier. This is a good place to focus the attention of outside reviewers and committee members on areas of the candidate's record that may not attract attention otherwise.
  • The candidate can synthesize teaching, research, and service/outreach goals so that the career appears coherent.
  • The statement, like the entire dossier, should be readable and as free of jargon and highly technical terms as possible.
