This is for people with the original Japanese Windows XP Pro installation that comes with the Sony VGN-U71P.
No recovery disks are provided. You have to create your own. The instructions (in Japanese) are provided on pages 195-199 of the supplied manual.
This webpage is for non-Japanese speakers (like myself) who want to create recovery disks just in case they want to restore the original configuration some day.
Here, I will be using the portable Sony DVD±RW drive (PCGA-DDRW3) plugged in via the docking station.
Instructions:
Accessed via
start menu (スタート) to
All Programs (すべてのプログラム) to
Vaio Recovery Tool Folder (VAIOリカバリーツール) to
Vaio Recovery Utility (VAIOリカバリユーティリティ)
select first option (C)
create recovery disk (リカバリディスクを作成する)
(Other option is for recovery.)
Click OK
Click next (次へ)
Select the single DVD-R option
(other option is 4 CD-Rs)
Click on next (次へ)
Shows you've selected the right media
Click begin (作成開始 )(S)
Insert disc
click OK
Green bar showing progress appears
Disk automatically ejects
Pop up signals completion
click OK
