Miramonte Neighborhood Association Board of Directors Meeting, October 13, 2004

Members present. Ruth Beeker (President) (for items 8-11), Kim Huxman (Vice President), Terry Langendoen (Secretary), Ann Corney (Treasurer), Lowell Jones (for items 1-3), Dave Meko, Thomas Muñoz, Mary Ann O'Neil, Laura Ritter-Baker, Dray Sterling, Linda Warkomski

Members absent. Cheryl Leo

Guests. Ronni Kotwica (Neighborhood Enhancement Team), Chris Miller (TPD) (for item 6)

  1. Call to order. Kim called the meeting to order at 7:00pm.
  2. Electronic archives and neighborhood alert. Lowell pointed out that the Department of Neighborhood Resources only maintains current newsletters. He suggested that we archive them on our website along with the board meeting minutes. After discussion, Lowell agreed to open an unmoderated Yahoo group for neighborhood alerts, which anyone can join. He will draft a set of rules of conduct and circulate them.
  3. Newsletter. Dray announced that he can't devote the time needed to edit and produce the newsletter. Mary Ann reported that Dena McDuffie has expressed interest. Mary Ann will ask her.
  4. Approval of minutes. The minutes of the board meeting of September 8 were approved.
  5. Treasurer's report. Ann reported income of $195 and a current balance of $3,894.30.
  6. Neighborhood improvement plan. Ronni circulated a mock-up of a large postcard announcing our neighborhood cleanup effort. After discussion of items to include, it was agreed that Mary Ann and Thomas would consult on the wording and give it to Ronni. It was also agreed that we would send out the cards in advance of the next brush and bulky pickup in the neighborhood (presumably in March 2005), and set a deadline for the cleanup to be completed shortly after that date.
  7. Traffic. Linda had no update, other than that the traffic counter was in place on three different occasions on Camino Miramonte, presumably because it failed the first two times. Vince will be present at our November meeting, as previously announced.
  8. DDO dénouement. Ruth reported that city staff withdrew the draft DDO document at the last Planning Commission meeting. In response to the debacle, a Community Coalition will be formed to represent the neighborhood's views on city planning. An informational meeting with Ward 3 neighborhood leaders will be held Wednesday, October 20 at 6:30pm at the Woods Library.
  9. Park opening. A copy of the postcard announcing the Miramonte Park opening ceremonies starting at 3pm on October 30th was circulated. A motion to give Julie Parisek a $40 gift certificate to either Reader's Oasis or Cuvée for her work on getting the park built passed unanimously. Mary Ann will choose the award. Laura agreed to get information about a printing company to prepare a banner announcing the event to be put in the park on or about October 25. Ruth described the planned order of events. Fred Gray from Parks & Rec will welcome everyone, then Ward 6 Councilperson Fred Ronstadt will introduce Ruth, who will acknowledge past and present board members and others who worked on making the park a reality. Mary Ann will cut the hopefully orange and black ribbon. Photographs will be taken, and the MNA will officially adopt the park from B. J. Cordova, Head of the Adopt-a-Park program. Dray volunteered to supervise a sign-up sheet for volunteers. Kim and Linda will get the children organized for the costume parade. Kim also agreed to arrange for musicians to perform. A motion to authorize spending up to $200 for musical entertainment passed unanimously. Refreshments will be served, courtesy of Ward 6. Mary Ann will ask Julie about using tape to keep the crowd off the plantings. Currently no bulletin board is planned for the park. Ronni suggested we apply for a PRO neighborhood grant. Mary Ann agreed to follow up. A rain delay decision will be made by 1:30pm on October 30th. If the ceremony is delayed, it will be held at the same time on November 6.
  10. Holiday party. Our December holiday party will be held at Fronimo's on Sunday, December 12, starting at 4:30pm.
  11. Adjournment. Ruth adjourned the meeting at 9:05 pm.

The next board meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 10 in the Benedictine Sanctuary meeting room, 800 N Country Club, starting at 7:00 p.m.
