My research revolves around various topics within the Minimalist Principles and Parameters approach to syntactic theory including phrase structure, copular constructions, case theory, word order (especially verb initial languages). The past 4 years I have been leading a team investigating the syntax, phonology and phonetics of Modern Scottish Gaelic. I am the author of numerous articles and 11 books. In my off hours, I'm usually off doing international folk dancing or square dancing.
During the 2012-2013, I am serving as the interim Dean of the Graduate College.
I am also Faculty Director in the Graduate College and responsible for 15 graduate Interdisciplinary programs (GIDPs):
American Indian Studies, Applied Mathematics, Arid Lands Resource Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Cancer Biology, Cognitive Science, Entomology and Insect Science, Genetics, Global Change, Neuroscience, Physiological Sciences, PSM in Applied Biology, Remote Sensing and Spatial Analysis, Second Language Acquisition and
Teaching, and Statistics. I also participate in the management of the academic side of the Graduate College).
