Save SIRLS!

On January 14, 2003, we got some very surprising and unwelcome news -- that the School of Information Resources and Library Science (SIRLS) was one of 16 programs that might be eliminated as a response to the unprecedented fiscal woes of the University.

The reason President Likins and Provost Davis gave? Not the high quality of the education we provide, and not even our program's cost to the University. The sole reason they gave was that they believe that the University would not be able to fund the 3 faculty positions promised during our recent (and very successful) ALA accreditation certification.

What are we going to do about it? We are embarking on an ambitious fundraising campaign which includes an endowment campaign, a gala fundraising dinner featuring author J.A. Jance, and other events such as a SIRLS reunion to be held in the fall.
